Thinking with hands
Based in Brighton, I make puppets, masks and other design elements for theatre. My process is continuously adapting and I use recycled or reclaimed materials wherever possible.
I’m really excited to announce that I have been awarded a Develop your Creative Practice mask by Arts Council England, to allow me time to develop my skills carving wood and making hard leather masks for theatre. I shall be tracking my journey of discovery in a blog, on here.
I like visual problem solving.
I started making puppets for my own company, Sabotage Theatre, which I founded in 2008, after graduating from East 15 Acting School. Since then I have collaborated with theatre companies, artists and circuses, using papier-mâché, latex, clay, leather and fabric, and an array of reclaimed materials. I have also made costumes and have a keen interest in historical clothing.
I find great inspiration from tuning in and responding to the materials and performers I work with. I find this is particularly useful when creating masks, which reveal their characters in an almost a supernatural way.
